Foster or Adopt, Don’t Shop

These cats are in need of a foster or forever human bestie to share a home with

We are a small organization with limited equipment, space, and funding. We can only help a very limited number cats off the street at a time (unless there is a pre-arranged home) which is why you will never see more than just a few cats listed here at a time. We do not have a publicly accessible shelter. Adoptable cats are in foster care and may be met virtually. Please remember these cats come from survival mode outside and may come with some baggage, and will require time and patience to be comfortable around new humans.

Cats adopted from New Cat City must be kept indoors strictly. Cats adopted from New Cat City may not be rehomed from the person named in the adoption agreement. We require cats to be returned back to us if adopter is unable to keep him/her for any reason.

Our adoption fee is $200.00 and this typically includes sterilization, Rabies and FVRCP vaccinations. Thank you very much for your interest, only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Adoption or foster application form link is below the cat’s information.

Cats in need of their forever home and forever guardian:

Cheddar

Name: Cheddar

Sex: male (neutered)

Breed: domestic shorthair

Colour: orange tabby

Estimated Age: 12-14 years

Rescued from Feline Dystopia on: August 22, 2025

Cheddar lived as an outdoor community cat on the property of the Royal Ontario Museum and University of Toronto, and took shelter beneath the old planetarium building for over ten years. He was well known, well loved, and well fed. As the impending demolition of the planetarium building neared, New Cat City was contacted to see if we could help contain him for rescue and indoor retirement. Once he was trapped for rescue we had him examined courtesy of Toronto Animal Services, where he was viral tested and treated for fleas. He was found to have dermatopathy on his back which was treated with clip/clean and antibiotics. Once he was treated for fleas everything seemed to resolve with his skin. We suspect it was most likely flea allergy dermatitis. FAD in cats is an allergic reaction to flea saliva, causing intense itching, hair loss, scabs, and crusty bumps (miliary dermatitis) from excessive grooming and scratching. He also underwent dental surgery with a couple of extractions of painful resorptive lesions, at our vet clinic thanks to the help of Cheddar’s old crew plus New Cat City supporters.

Although Cheddar had many folks keeping an eye out for him, over time he did learn to trust some of his specific regular feeders to the point they could pet him when he was distracted with food. When we tried to find out why no one has tried rescuing him sooner, we learned that some feeders were possessive over him and prevented his rescue to indoors sadly. And when we became involved we experienced this issue firsthand with individuals who claimed they wanted to help him but were uncooperative with the requests to stop feeding him. Cheddar’s rescue was one of our more drama and stress-filled endeavours. We believe that if Cheddar could have been brought indoors instead of TNRed over ten years ago, he’d likely have been more trusting of humans by this age. Instead he suffered the hot summers and freezing winters, with a flea infestation and allergy to fleas, as well as competition for planetarium shelter with raccoons and foxes, living in survival mode.

After his dental recovery Cheddar has been staying with a foster guardian with free run of the condo unit. We’ve found that this lone wolf prefers to keep to himself when given the opportunity. Cheddar will be happiest in a home where there are no other pets or young kids. Cheddar does not prefer the company of dogs as previously observed in his former outdoor setting. Cheddar was not part of a larger feline colony, he was a lone wolf, solely receiving the attention of his feeders, never having to compete for food with other cats. At his estimated age of 14 years, this senior man will thrive as the king of his household, without having to feel any pressure of making friends with new cats or dogs. Cheddar may take time and patience to come around and will need a calm and quiet environment. All Cheddar will need for his comfort is a window that allows sunlight where he may bask. Cheddar is not fully socialized and may quite possibly never be a lapcat. He will take treats by hand but is not thrilled to be touched – he tolerates it. Cheddar has been in foster care as of mid-November/25. We are asking for your help in placing him in the most perfect forever home. If you are interested adopting Cheddar and understand he is currently not fully socialized, please refer to application form link below. Virtual meetings may be arranged after we receive your application.

Duncan

Name: Duncan

Sex: male (neutered)

Breed: domestic shorthair

Colour: black

Estimated Age: 1 year

Rescued from Feline Dystopia on: September 16, 2025

Duncan was trapped as an intact one year old living in an unfortunate location/situation. He came from the basement of a hoarding house where he lived in the ceiling because the floor was covered in elimination. When we had him recovering from his neuter surgery we discovered he also had explosive projectile diarrhea, inappropriate elimination habits, and he wasn’t fully socialized.

Over the past few months Duncan has developed social skills and friendships with our resident cats. He has made incredible progress in his engagement with humans. And his litter box habits are 100% normal now and his GI system is healthy. He may look extra tough because one of his eyes was previously damaged, but his eyes are both fine examined by a vet, and he does not show us signs on pain or discomfort. Duncan is a small panther. He is fit, agile, energetic, and a stealthy hunter. He doesn’t mind being pet and he takes Churu and treats by hand. He’s very playful and loves toys and playtime.

We would love to find Duncan an experienced forever home where he can continue learn more social skills. He’s very playful and deserves to be in a home with some feline friends or a human who can keep up with his play drive.

Cats in need of foster (or foster to adopt)

Name: Anu

Sex: male (neutered)

Breed: domestic shorthair

Colour: black and white tuxedo

Estimated Age: 5 years

Rescued from Feline Dystopia on: November 28, 2025

Anu was TNRed to colony A/B in 2023 by trapper friend. That is the same year we started helping at colony A, and in 2024 we started helping at colony B. Over time we re-trapped most of the existing TNR cats for indoor retirement and Anu was one of the last to remain. We thought Anu was a girl due to his smaller physique. In late spring 2025 Anu disappeared from coming to the food stations or using the winter shelters that he was seen at in previous winters when a pair of foxes moved into the area to have kits. Anu reappeared in the summer and we resumed his trap training. We had to wait for Cheddar to go into foster care before we could trap him.

Anu used to keep distance from us and never approached us at food time. He typically would wait for us to leave before he ate and if we crept back to get closer he’d leave if we got too close for his comfort. We assumed he would be very skittish and take time to come around – but we found him to allow petting very soon after coming inside. He also vocalizes with us which is a great sign.

Anu is scheduled for a dental surgery on March 3. To contribute to his care fund please visit our links page on ways to donate!

If you are interested fostering or adopting Anu and understand he is currently not fully socialized, please refer to application form link below. Virtual meetings may be arranged after we receive your application..

Emergency rescues who need a plan:

Ceasar

Name: Ceasar

Sex: male (neutered)

Breed: domestic shorthair

Colour: black

Estimated Age: 2 years

Rescued from Feline Dystopia on: August 29, 2025

Ceasar was trapped as an intact two year old living in an unfortunate location/situation. He came from the basement of a hoarding house where he lived in the ceiling because the floor was covered in elimination. He is relaxed in his temporary space and we believe he may have potential to be a socialized cat over time with love and patience. Ceasar is from the same location as Duncan and may be related to him, such as his papa cat. He doesn’t like to be touched but is with a patient babysitter until we can sort him out. Ceasar is in good health and uses his litter box and produces normal/healthy BMs.

WE ARE OPEN TO CEASAR GOING TO ANOTHER RESCUE (NOT A BARN). Please contact us if you’re with a rescue that can help.

Olive

Name: Olive

Sex: female (spayed)

Breed: domestic shorthair

Colour: black

Estimated Age: 1 year

Rescued from Feline Dystopia on: January 14, 2026

Olive was trapped as an intact one year old living in an unfortunate location/situation. She had given birth outside to kittens most likely in mid-December. We were told about the situation and went to the site to install a trail camera and heated shelters to monitor for potential mama and kittens and on that same day we made the discovery of four 4 week old kittens in a winter shelter. Olive ran away and didn’t return. We rescued the kittens who were at very high risk of death and continued to try for Olive until she was finally secured. Olive was spayed and recovered and reunited with her kittens. Being estimated at only a year old herself, Olive was already over motherhood and had no interest in nursing. Her kittens are under the care of another rescue group, but they are unable to accept Olive due to her unsocialized nature.

Olive was secured from a hoarding house where the cats lived in the basement ceiling because the floor was covered in elimination. She is from the same location as Duncan and Ceasar and may be related to them. She doesn’t like to be touched as of yet.

WE ARE OPEN TO OLIVE GOING TO ANOTHER RESCUE (NOT A BARN). Please contact us if you’re with a rescue that can help.
