About Us

We have a family of cats with special needs and other rescued animals. We have both been caring for cats for over 20 years, so combined we have over 40 years of experience! We are well versed in reading a cat’s body language to understand how they feel about us, and we use our judgement accordingly.

We would love to look after your cats when you need someone to check on them. Our special needs family benefits from 100% of the proceeds of New Cat City Sitters, so it’s a win win all around!

Please note, we are not a registered business. We are not bonded or insured. We offer cat-sitting services to generate extra $$ for the cats we care for at New Cat City. (FYI sitters on Rover are also not always bonded or insured).

FAQs

Please review our Frequently Asked Questions before making an inquiry.

“Do you offer boarding? Can I bring my cats to you?”

We do not offer boarding. We would recommend hiring a cat-sitter over boarding, unless your cat has special needs that would require the care of a veterinarian or RVT. Boarding is sometimes a necessary option if you and your cats are required to vacate your home for pest control/fumigation. Try asking your cat’s regular veterinarian for boarding recommendations.

“Do you service outside of west Toronto?”

We generally try to keep our visits within our regular service area of Bloordale, Davenport, High Park, Junction, Parkdale, Roncesvalles, Wallace-Emerson, Swansea, Baby Point, Runnymede, Silverthorne, Fairbank, Wychwood Park. We prefer to keep within the limits of Jane St/S Kingsway, Eglinton Av W, Bathurst St, and King St W. However, depending on our schedule and availability we may be able to accommodate for an additional distance fee outside of this area. Please contact us to inquire.

“Do you offer dog-sitting or walking services?

Our main focus is cats, however we have cared for small dogs who are pee pad trained, and treat the visits the same as a cat visit. If you feel your dog’s needs may be met within a 30 minute visit please contact us to inquire. If your dog requires more than 30 minutes and we are available, we may be able to accommodate for an additional fee. Please contact us to inquire.

“Can you care for other pets?”

We are happy to care for any species pet as long as clear instructions on care are provided. We are comfortable with any and all animal species including rabbits, turtles, birds, fishes, reptiles, and spiders. Cost per visit would be determined based on level of care required. For a basic visit we would charge a base fee of $25.00.

“How long does each visit last?”

Our visits last approximately 20-30 minutes on average for 1-2 cats. In this time we feed, refresh water, maintain litter box, and show affection (if they want us to). If there are other special instructions or medications we can discuss them in your initial meeting visit. Some cats like us immediately, some cats need a couple of visits before they feel comfortable around us, and some still hide from us when we come. They are all different. For the scaredy cats, we do not impose on them or pressure them to come out. We simply check in on them, proceed with food, water, and litter, then we let them be. For shy cats the visit may take only 15-20 minutes, and for needy cats 40-45 minutes.

“What is litter box monitoring?”

We request that all litter boxes be scooped before you leave, so we are able to accurately keep track of your cat’s normal litter box usage. This allows us to track regularity and consistency of BMs, and ensure (to the best of our ability) that your cats are also regularly urinating.

“How do you look after cats that go outside?”

We require all indoor/outdoor cats be kept indoors during the time you are away to ensure their safety while we are responsible for them.

“Do you administer medication?”

We will administer oral medications or give subcutaneous injections as long as your cat is comfortable with us. As each cat is different, we will need to use our discretion in our initial meeting visit to determine if everyone feels comfortable. Some cats may become cantankerous or unpredictable when put in stressful situations (such as being cornered to be drugged against their will), and we don’t want to exacerbate any pre-existing conditions they are on medication for. If your cat is reasonably cooperative we can administer medication for +$5/medication. For uncooperative cat requiring medication we suggest hiring an RVT or board at your vet.

“Do you send updates on my cats? How often will I receive updates while I am away?”

We can send updates as often as you prefer, as often as after each visit! We can send photos via text, email, or WhatsApp. Please let us know your preference at your initial meeting visit.

Felix

“We have a great person through cat city sitters looking after our cat Felix when we go away. She plays and give him lots of attention when she comes over. Felix looks forward to her coming each time. It is a great comfort to know your cat is in good hands while you are away and would recommend them. She also has brought over toys for him and treats.”

Charlotte and Rubin

“We were worried about going away for the first time since we adopted two cats with cerebellar hypoplasia. But Cat City Sitters’ experience with the the condition put us at ease, and we are thrilled with the care we got for our CHers and for our senior cat. We particularly appreciated the emailed update while we were away and the detailed visit-by-visit written report we found when we got home. We were so happy, we’re already planning a longer trip!”
